Jennie White - Kiwanis West Citizen Of The Month

On Tuesday, March 4th, Jennie was given the Kiwanis West Citizen Of The Month award for Ocotillo Elementary School. Ann and I went to the district office to see Jennie get her award. Dr. Lebetsamer presented Jennie with her award, after reading the following letter from Jennie's teacher, Mrs. Hurst (Aunt T):

It is my pleasure to honor Jennie White as the First Grade Kiwanis student of the month for February. She continually exhibits all four character traits of the Palmdale School District.
She is a respectful and responsible child who works above and beyond first grade expectations. She is a highly motivated learner and always wants to do her best.
She is a trustworthy and fair leader in and out of the classroom as well as a good role model to her peers. She has an enthusiasm for learning that is contagious.
She is friendly and well liked by her classmates and is always willing to be a friend to those around her. She is kind and compassionate beyond her years.
Jennie is always smiling and brightens our classroom with her positive attitude. She is a delightful child and I am honored to be her first grade teacher.

Mom, Dad and big brother Jacob are very proud of Jennie!

Ion Update

After only 1 week, my Ion is back to 'new'. I picked it up from the body shop on Thursday, and it looks great. The insurance issues have been taken care of (for now) and everything is back to normal.
Next project...Jacob's wall!

Accidents Happen

So, I'm driving home last night. As I approach an intersection (green light, I might add) a driver traveling in the opposite direction thought that they could make a left hand turn before I ....well.... didn't quite make it:

Good news is that no one was hurt, the other drive took full responsibility, insurance is taken care of and, well, I got to to see the 'inside' of my car!
Cool, eh!

Richard Joseph White Memorial

My grandfather Richard White, passed away on January 7 of this year. On January 12th , the entire extended family got together to say 'so long' (not good bye) and to celebrate Grandpa's life.

After the grave site services, we all went to my cousin Kirstin's house, for food, drink and reminiscing . It was a fitting tribute to a wonderful man.

Christmas In Ashland Oregon

Well, after the fun of getting a new car for Ann, we were not quite ready for my trusty Vue (216,000 miles) to give up the ghost and need a new transmission LESS THAN 1 WEEK AFTER BUYING A NEW CAR!!!!

After the initial gnashing of teeth and the choice between a $6500 new transmission or another new car, we bought a 'previously owned' 2006 Saturn Ion for my new commuter-mobile.

We picked up the Ion on Saturday, packed the Outlook Saturday night, and were on the road by 5:15 Sunday morning!

The drive up was one of the smoothest we have had, and save for a couple of hours of fog in the central valley, the weather was great. We made the best time ever (just over 11 hours) and surprised Art and Doris with our early arrival.

We had a great dinner with Mor-Mor and Far-Far, as well as Ann's godmother Marty and husband Art. The kids tried their best, but were no match for the 11:00pm candlelight service at Doris and Art's church. Jennie slept like a log, and at one point, started snoring! Jacob popped his head up at the end, but for the most part 'slept in heavenly peace' the entire service.

Christmas day was fun for all, with Jennie getting clothes for her American Girl doll Emily, while Ann got to meet her new best friend Julie, the newest American Girl. Julie is from the 1970's and her clothes and overall look remind Ann of when she was a girl. Jacob, the Lego maniac that he is, scored several Lego sets.

The day after Christmas, we were treated to a small snow storm, and Ann, the kids and I went out to play in the white stuff.

A very fun Christmas time was had by all!

Well, the blog site is going kinda slow today, so I'll make sure to put up some pictures in the next day or so.
